You pretty well already nailed it. Golden Lotus recipes, which includes the leg armors. Farm motes of harmony. Depending on your server they may go quick or not at all. I'd suggest barking before crafting the high end armors since you can only make so many.
Of course, their are ways to make gold that do not involve professions. Flipping items on the AH, or selling transmog, for example.

If you don't have the SoH, I've been making decent cash crafting the older bags namely, Mammoth Mining Bag. Lothwyn Human Warlock posts. If I had a LW with no SoH , I'd work on bags. On my server, I bought a ton of inferno ink and heavy savage leather to trade in for Pristine Hide and had my friend craft some Royal Satchels scribe bags.

Its as simple as knowing what sells good on your server, on my leatherworking toons server, magnificent hides sell well, and exotic leather sells for alot cheaper than the hides.
